Printed in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, March 20, 2012 Cheryl Fletcher, (nee Kossuth), Virginia artist and carver, died March 6, 2012 in Bedford, VA., after a long and gallant battle with lung disease. Her art garnered many awards and the property she and her husband Dick developed on Smith Mountain Lake was designated a 'Backyard Wildlife Habitat' by The National Wildlife Federation. Cherie was born in Cleveland, OH., on Dec. 20, 1939 and grew up in Olmsted Falls, her home was encircled by the 'Emerald Necklace', there, her love of nature took root. She became an accomplished equestrian and animal advocate, as a child she often rescued injured animals both domestic and wild. An exceptional student, Cherie was awarded a four year scholarship to St. Francis College in Indiana. During this time she met Dick Fletcher, her husband, partner, best friend and without doubt 'soul mate'. Lighting their lives were three children, Gregory, Kristin and Geoffrey; and three grand-children, Andrea, Ian and Erik. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Geoffrey; her dear parents, Earl and Edith Kossuth; and 'big' sister, Denise Edith Kossuth. Mourning with her family are sisters, Amanda Winters and Bonnie Woods; aunt and uncle George and Eloise Cooper; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. This wonderful multi-talented indomitable spirit will be missed by all she touched, her work will be memorialized in an on line gallery, created by her husband and children.
